Many people loved Before the Fall but it just didn’t click with me. I realize that this is on the New York Times bestseller list, but frankly, I found it boring. Sometimes I’m just not on-board with the consensus and this is one of those times.

This book gave me a serious case of who-cares-itis. The characters aren’t necessarily memorable, although Scott Burroughs, the painter, isn’t so bad. From what I read, I didn’t find it the least bit suspenseful. It has a great synopsis, but I didn’t like the story structure. I actually enjoyed the beginning, so it started strong, but then it weaves the backstories in with the plane crash investigation causing the novel to lose momentum.

I originally started with the print version, but when it introduced the backstories, my interest started to fade, so I switched to the audiobook. Sometimes switching from print to audiobook, or vice versa, makes a big difference, but in this case, it didn’t. There were moments that I enjoyed, but then when it got to a boring part, I had a hard time getting back into it. After spacing out during the boring parts, I realized that I had no idea what was going on. That’s when I called it quits. I can’t even comment on the ending, because I didn’t get that far.

If the synopsis sounds intriguing to you, then give it a shot. Maybe it’s your cup of tea, but it just wasn’t mine.
